I bought a used Nikon L35 AF at Value Village in Crown Hill yesterday. Inside was a roll of film that contained photos that apparently belonged to a former Seafair Pirate, maybe 20 years ago. The only name I can make out is "Wheat". Ahoy, In 1953 my mother was a Seafair Princess in Seattle, WA. I have her 1953 Seafair Pirate's button, and I have my button from 1975 when I was a Skagit Valley Fair Queen candidate from Mt. Vernon, WA. Just this past June Captain Kidd and his lady visited Westport for Pirate Days! It was awesome to meet Captain Kidd, and I shared my story with him. He told me of this site and I was hoping to have the Seafair Pirate's be a friend on my face book friends and family!

Twas the night before Plunder, when all through the ship Not a pirate was sober, not one scurvy lip. The cannons were stowed in the portholes with care, In hopes that the treasure soon would be there. The hearties were ready all smug in their dreads, While visions of gold-doubloons.... danced in their heads. Cabin Boy in his knickers, and I in his lap, Had just settled our brains with an "X" on the map. When out on the deck there arose such a clatter, I swaggered from me quarters to see what was the matter. Away to the yardarm, me sword like a flash, I ran up the crossbones and hid all the stash. The moon on the breast of the bow spirit below, Gave a luster of memories to the beauties we know. When, what to me pillaging eyes should appear, But a keelhauling longboat, and eight salty buccaneers. With a rum soaked sea dog, careening like a dick, I knew in a moment his stuff had a kick. More rapid than kraakens his mateys they came, And he Arrrr-ed, and he aye'-ed, and called them by name! "Now Broadside! Now, Bilge Rat! Now, Bung Hole and Ill-gotten! On, Shark Bait! On, Sea Legs! On Scurvy and Rotten! To the top of the crow's nest, to the cursed brethren's call! Now blow me down! Blown me down! Blow me down all!" As timbers they shiver, before the wild hurricanes fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the crow's nest the corsairs they flew, With a sack full of rum, and Cap'n Morgan too. And then..........notes from a hornpipe, I heard in the mainsheet, The prancing and dancing of his own chantey beat. As I drew out my tankard, and was turning around, Down the mizzenmast, Cap'n Morgan came with a bound. He was dressed all in leather, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with cannonball soot. A bundle of "RUM" he had flung on his back, And he looked like a matey, just opening his pack. The stump of a leg was held tight in its sheath, And the rum fumes encircled his head like a wreath. He had a scared face and a chum-swilling belly, That shook when he "Arrrr-ed", like a wench eating jelly. His eye........ how it twinkled! His grog tasted so merry, His parrot was cawing, as it was eating some herring. His droll toothless mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as black as the coal. He was encrusted and drunk, a right Jolly Roger himself, And I "Yo-Ho-Ho-ed" when I saw him in spite of me-self. A patch on his eye, and a scarf on his head, Soon gave me to know, I had nothing to dread. He spoke not an "Ahoy", but went straight to his work, And filled all the rum kegs, then turned with a jerk. Watched the Torchlight parade on T.V. I was more than a little upset that they did not have time to show the pirates. I did not understand the different people talking about the history of Seafair. Seafair’s own website says The Seafair pirates, formed from a group of young, active Press Club members known as the Ale and Quail Society, were an important part of Seafair from its inception. Seafair history does not talk about the Parade Marshalls or the Seafair Boat in the history. I do not understand why Seafair did not have the pirates explaining the history or the starting point of Seafair. I know that the Seafair Boat Club was put together in 1975, 25 years after Seafair was started and the parade Marshall Colonel Garnett Wilson was the parade chairman for almost 15 years before they created the Marshalls as one of the Seafair families. The only thing that made me happy this year was the fact that the news made a public apology to the pirates for not showing them in the parade and placed video footage on the KIRO website. What can I say - you guys made our vacation. Despite Hurricane Paloma throwing the Pirates Week schedule off track, somehow fate intervened and we were able to connect with you and experience what we traveled to Grand Cayman for: fun, sun and pirates. Hi Guys! I just wanted to say how much fun you all brought to my mom, sister. and I. My father Passed away from pancreatic cancer in May. It was very diffacult for all of us. Well! I was working at the Tullys on 4th and Union while the Moby Duck brought up the end of the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Please pass this on to the Lopez family, our prayers and hearts go out to them. I had never met Santos, but talked to him many times on the phone and numerous emails about 3 years ago. He was trying to get me an electric scooter to get around after surgery I had put me in a wheelchair. He did have a huge heart of gold. Avast there me hardies! What great childhood memories I have of Seafair and the Seafair Pirates from the 50's and early 60's. My dad, C.J."Jim" Sperry, was a pirate back then and I got to dress up and ride with my dad and the pirates as the "littlest pirate", throwing candy to the crowd from the famous converted DUK amphibious landing craft pirate ship in the 1960 Seafair parade. But the best memory of all is when my dad arranged a surprise visit by the pirates to my 8th birthday party that summer. Boy were the neighbor kids impressed! Thanks for the memories and may everyone always continue to have the pleasure of being "Had" by the Seattle Seafair Pirates!

A few years back at the Daffodil Parade you guys were there. As you slowly passed by shooting the cannon I took notice of the last pirate who had a Lobster attached to his ankle!
